terms
carat is a space to imagine, plan and create the life you want. What you write and add here is yours. carat is in early access, so things may change as it grows.
If you already have an account, sign in with your email.
Don’t use it for anything unlawful.
carat plus. In the iPhone app, carat plus is a subscription, yearly or monthly, paid through your Apple ID. A new yearly subscription can start with a free week; if you don’t cancel before it ends, Apple charges the yearly price. It then renews at the same price each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can cancel or change it anytime in your Apple ID settings, and refunds are handled by Apple. Apple’s standard licence terms also apply.
privacy
What you add. Your words and images are saved to your account with Firebase (Google), so only you can open them. Before you give an email, they’re kept only in your browser. If you claim a @username, your profile (name, photo and one line) is public at carat.bz/@yourname. Nothing from your world is on it.
Your email. We use it to sign you in, to keep what you add safe, and to send you occasional notes, like reminders of what you’ve added or news when a place opens. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Before the app is out. A wish you write on carat.bz is kept as soon as you press next, even without an email, and without anything that says who wrote it. If you leave your email, we keep it with your wish, to tell you when carat is ready. Ask us and we delete both.
Purchases. If you subscribe in the app, RevenueCat, our payments provider, receives your purchase history from Apple together with an anonymous id, or your account id if you’re signed in, so carat knows your plan on every device. We never see your card details.
Songs and pictures from other services. When you add a Spotify song or press play, it plays in Spotify’s own player, loaded from Spotify. Pictures you add from a Pinterest link are loaded from Pinterest. These services see your IP address and what is loaded, and Spotify may set its own cookies. Their privacy policies apply: Spotify, Pinterest.
Sharing. A picture you share from carat is made on your phone. carat doesn’t keep a copy.
Visits. We keep a simple log of visits: the page, the time, and an approximate city and country. To find the city, your IP address is read briefly when you visit, but it is never stored. We don’t use advertising cookies, we don’t sell anything, and what you add is never part of this log. The log is kept for 12 months and then deleted.
We do this to run carat and to understand how it’s used (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Your account data is kept until you delete it.
Your choices. Sign out to leave, and sign in to come back. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time. Write to us and we’ll take care of it. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
